Low-voltage, high-current programmable supplies

The 60V models provide 50A and 100A adjustment ranges for higher-current DC-input tests. For a lower-voltage load needing more current, the 30V model offers a 200A range. Programmable settings and readback let your test software repeat operating points and record the results.

PC and PLC control: what your test needs

For repeated DC-input tests, use programmed voltage and current settings to reproduce the same operating points. Your test software can switch the output, read measurements and record the instrument state at each step. This supports input-voltage sweeps and repeated device checks without resetting the front panel for every test.

Connect a PLC or PC through a compatible RS485 interface, using the supply’s terminal assignments and serial settings. The model-specific command documentation provides the messages and value scaling for voltage/current settings, output control and readback.

RS485 communication for PC and PLC systems

RS485 carries serial communication between the controller and the power supply. The P/C-series Modbus RTU protocol includes read and single-register-write operations for output control, measurement readback and programmable setpoints on applicable models.

Use the supplied register map and value scaling to set outputs and read measurements in your PC or PLC program. Include instrument status in the test log and define the fixture’s response to a communication timeout.

For a multi-instrument test station, assign each supply a unique communication address and use the supported RS485 wiring arrangement. Set the polling sequence and timing to suit the number of instruments and the test cycle.

Select the interface when ordering

  1. Open the model that covers your voltage, current and control needs.
  2. Select RS485 in the available communication options. Where the product lists RS232, RS485 and USB as alternatives, choose the interface your controller uses.
  3. Choose AC input and output leads for the complete operating point. Select SENSE or external-trigger options if your test needs them and the product offers them.
  4. Review the selected configuration and place your order online.

Select AC input and continuous output power for the highest voltage and current needed together. For example, a 48V, 50A test point needs 2400W at the output. Where a product offers a 110–130V input option limited to 1200W, choose a different input configuration for that test point.

RS485 power supply questions

Can I set voltage and current through RS485?

The programmable models above provide remote output-setting functions with the appropriate communication configuration. Choose RS485 and use the commands supplied for your model to set voltage/current, switch the output and read measurements.

Can I control the power supply from a PLC?

Use a PLC with a compatible RS485 interface and support for the supply’s communication protocol. Match the serial settings, register addresses and value scaling to the instrument, then build the required output-setting and readback steps into your PLC program.

Which communication protocols are available?

The high-precision models above list Modbus and SCPI support. The P/C-series communication reference covers Modbus RTU commands. Use the command set supplied for the model and fitted interface you order.

Are RS232, RS485 and USB all included?

Where interfaces are listed as alternatives, choose the one your controller needs. The C-series models above offer RS485 in the product options. For high-precision models, confirm the fitted interface if the purchase page does not show that choice.
